The levels of MTDS represent a progression of learning across the teaching career. As a competency-based system, the levels do not correspond to years of experience, but rather to mastery of level-specific content and knowledge. However, understanding the progression of learning is aided by general guidance on the most likely application of the learning at each level. Levels may be useful for teachers and those supporting teacher learning. The levels may be helpful when used as an opportunity for reflection and self-assessment.
